Plasma Burning

Plasma plate burning, also known as plasma cutting, is a process of cutting metal using a high-temperature plasma arc. The process involves a gas, such as compressed air, nitrogen, or oxygen, being blown at high speed through a nozzle, while an electric arc is created between the nozzle and the metal being cut.The intense heat of the plasma arc melts and blows away the metal, creating a precise and clean cut. Plasma plate burning is widely used in manufacturing and fabrication industries for cutting various types of metals, including weathering steel. Compared to other cutting methods, plasma cutting offers several advantages, including high precision, high speed, versatility, minimal heat distortion and automation.  Central Steel Service is equipped with three burning machines enabling us to offer custom-size plate burning and parts burning of weathering steel plate. Each burning machine is equipped with both Oxy/Fuel Plate Burning and Plasma Burning capabilities.

• Plasma Plate Burning – We provide 400 Amp precision plasma plate burning through 2” plate thickness, featuring continuous bevel cutting through 1-1/4” plate thickness and True Hole® Technology through 1” plate thickness. We have burning capacity for parts up to 12 ft wide by 55 ft long. We also offer precision cut parts from steel plate. We can accept and process CAD files directly to our machine.
• Oxy/Fuel Plate Burning – With Oxy-Fuel plate burning capabilities, we can burn parts over our 2” plate thickness plasma burn capability through 5” plate thickness. We have burning capacity for parts up to 12 ft wide by 55 ft long. We also offer precision cut parts from steel plate. We can accept and process CAD files directly to our machine.

 

Cut-to-length and Coil Slitting

We understand special projects need unique lengths and widths of steel. While we maintain 48-inch, 60-inch, 72-inch and 96-inch wide plate and sheet products in coil form, we can also provide specific cut-to-length and slit coil requirements. Buying just the length and width you need will save you time and money! 

Saw Cutting

Using our extended saw table, we can saw cut weathering steel structural shapes, including weathering steel bar, weathering steel tube and weathering steel pipe to custom lengths. If our stock lengths do not fit your needs, let us know, and we can saw cut to better serve your needs.
