Central Steel Service, Inc., based in Pelham, Alabama, celebrates 40 years of serving its customers as a family-owned and operated high strength and high strength weathering steel distributor.
Central Steel Service was founded in 1981 primarily as a steel distributor to its sister company, Process Equipment. Central Steel Service supplied Process Equipment with corrosion-resistant materials, primarily referred to as Cor-ten, which were utilized for a variety of its industrial pollution control products as an enhancement to product life cycles. In 2003, Keith Woods, Owner and CEO of Central Steel Service, bought out the previous owners and implemented a growth strategy, which involved expanding the company’s service area, product line, and indoor storage space.
“Through our growth, we have remained committed to our niche of supplying corten-equivalent, high strength, high strength weathering and abrasion resistant steel products,” said Woods. “We understand that the unique applications utilizing these specialty products require the utmost attention to quality and material traceability, which is why we focus all our resources on supplying these specialty products.”
Since the inception of Central Steel Service, weathering steels have increased in popularity and are now used in an array of structural and architectural applications, such as bridges, transmission poles, railcars, building facades, roofing and siding.
“The strength and growth of Central Steel Service can be attributed directly to our employees’ long-term commitments to Central Steel Service and the loyalty of our customers,” Woods said. “We are committed to providing customers with an exceptional level of service to make their buying experience easy.”
Central Steel Service is in its third-generation of family involvement and the team consists of 21 employees, many of whom have worked for the company for more than 10 years.
