Have you tried our Cor-Match™ product? As a weathering steel wire and electrode, it serves as a weld metal that matches the corrosion resistance and patina color of corten-equivalent weathering steels. We launched the product last year and are receiving fantastic feedback from our customers.

In this case, we saw an opportunity to develop a wire and electrode containing the same alloys contained in self-weathering steels to serve as a weld metal not only matching the corrosion resistance of weathering steel but also the unique orange/brown patina color.
The characteristics and mechanical properties of Cor-Match™ enhance the efficiency and streamline the process of welding with weathering steels.
Product Properties
Our Cor-Match™ products feature excellent mechanical properties and a close color match to weathering steels. Cor-Match™ 80-CW and 810-W are both low-alloy steel electrodes for single- and multiple-pass welding of self-weathering steels per ASTM A588, A606-4, A242, A709-50W and A847 where color match and corrosion resistance are required. The difference between Cor-Match™ 80-CW and 810-W is how they are used.
Cor-Match™ 80-CW is a composite, metal-cored electrode for FLAT AND HORIZONTAL welding of weathering steels. It welds in a pure spray transfer, using 75-80 percent argon-balance carbon dioxide, which results in a spatter emission that is nearly non-existent. The penetrating characteristics of this tubular electrode are better than most solid electrodes because it eliminates the “cold-lap” on heavier plate or scaled areas. Plus, 80-CW generates less fume than flux-cored electrodes making it useful where slag removal and cleanup present problems.
Cor-Match™ 810-W, on the other hand, is a gas-shielded, flux-cored electrode for ALL POSITION welding of weathering steels. We have found that the spray transfer, which removes easily and cleanly appeals to many welders. Plus, it provides a smooth bead profile.
