Project Spotlight: Cabins at Como Retreat

Metal Roofing on Cabins

Project Spotlight: Cabins at Como Retreat

Metal roofing, particularly weathering steel roofing, offers several advantages when compared to other roofing materials, like asphalt shingles, wood shingles and shake, or clay and concrete tiles.

Metal roofing is durable, long-lasting, fire resistant, energy efficient and require minimal maintenance. In addition to these practical benefits, weathering steel roofs provides the necessary strength, corrosion resistance, and an aesthetically-pleasing look that blends well in various environments.

When it was time to replicate the roofs on its newly-built guest cabins, the Como Plantation Retreat selected weathering steel for these reasons. We supplied the Como Retreat with 22ga corrugated weathering panels with a 2.67 x 7/8” profile for the roofing material. The rustic, orange-brown patina color blends perfectly with the wood-sided cabins and surrounding wooded, natural area keeping in line with the charm and character of the cabins and the retreat as whole.

About the Como Plantation Retreat

Located just north of St. Francisville, Louisiana, in West Feliciana Parish, the Como Plantation Retreat was prayerfully designed to help guests draw near to God through stillness and silence in the beauty of His creation. Tucked between Louisiana’s famed Tunica Hills and the Mississippi River, its remote location makes the property a natural fit for a spiritual sanctuary.

Como Retreat encompasses the recently restored main house (circa 1890), several guest cabins, a reading room, and rustic chapel—nestled between hilly hiking trails on one side, and an unimpeded view of the Mississippi River on the other. Offering both mens and ladies retreats, Como Retreat’s hope is that time slows down and perspectives shift. Learn more about the retreat here.
