Nestled in the picturesque region of Otago on the South Island of New Zealand, the Clutha Gold Cycling & Walking Trail has become a beloved destination for both locals and tourists. Thanks to Calder Stewart this trail, renowned for its diverse and stunning landscapes, now features a series of weathering steel pedestrian bridges on the section between Milton and Waihola. We’re proud to have supplied the weathering steel material and Cor-Match welding wire for a project that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the trail but also showcases innovative engineering suited to the local environment.
When it comes to bridge building, weathering steel has gained popularity for its durability and aesthetic appeal. In fact, weathering steel has been used in more than 10,000 bridges since being introduced in 1964, and properly-designed weathering steel bridges have achieved lifespans of up to 120 years.
