Why Strenx® 110XF Is the Next Step in High-Strength Structural Steel

At Central Steel Service, we’re excited to spotlight one of the most advanced high-strength steels available today: Strenx® 110XF from SSAB. Formerly known in the industry under the Domex® brand, Strenx has redefined what performance steel can deliver, and Strenx 110XF is a leading example of that evolution.

From Domex to Strenx: A Name That Matches Performance

While the Domex brand served structural steel needs well for decades, SSAB consolidated its high-performance structural steels under the Strenx name to better reflect their enhanced capabilities and consistent quality. Today, Strenx is recognized globally as a top choice for demanding structural applications combining strength, precision, and fabrication friendliness in one package.

Unmatched Strength for Structural Applications

Strenx® 110XF is a high-strength, cold-forming structural steel engineered for components where performance, reliability, and total cost competitiveness matter most. With a minimum yield strength of 110 ksi (760 MPa) and a tensile strength of at least 118 ksi (813 MPa), 110XF offers superior load-bearing capabilities compared to many conventional steels.

This elevated strength allows designers and manufacturers to build lighter, yet stronger structures, which reducing overall weight without sacrificing performance or safety.

Key Benefits of Strenx® 110XF

Here’s why Strenx 110XF stands out in today’s high-performance steel landscape:

  • Higher Strength, Higher Performance: Compared to earlier 100 ksi grades (like Strenx® 100XF), Strenx 110XF delivers about 10 percent more yield strength and approximately 7 percent more tensile strength — meaning better safety factors and increased load capacity in many designs.
  • Cold-Forming and Workshop-Friendly: Strenx 110XF is optimized for cold forming, making it ideal for bending, rolling, and complex fabrication. It works with the same equipment and processes as other high-strength steels so workshop productivity stays high with no special changes required.
  • Welding, Cutting & Machining Ease: With low carbon and controlled alloy content, Strenx 110XF offers excellent weldability using conventional methods and requires no preheating under most conditions. It also cuts and machines cleanly, helping save time and improve part quality.
  • Precision and Consistency: Strenx steels come with tight, guaranteed tolerances for thickness and flatness — giving fabricators predictable performance from sheet to sheet, coil to coil. That leads to reliable bending, consistent forming results, and less scrap.
  • Toughness Where It Counts: Strenx 110XF demonstrates strong impact resistance at low temperatures, with certified toughness down to –40 °F (–40 °C). This reliability makes it suitable for structures that face real-world stresses and variable environments.
  • Standards and Certifications: Strenx 110XF meets and can be supplied to a variety of international standards, including EN 10149-2 S700MC, and on request ASTM A1011 Grade 100 or ASTM A1018 Grade 100 — offering flexibility for global design specifications.

Applications Across Industries

Thanks to its combination of strength, toughness, and fabrication properties, Strenx 110XF is ideally suited for:

  • Transport equipment and trailers
  • Agricultural machinery
  • Construction and lifting equipment
  • Heavy structural components
  • Custom engineered assemblies

Its high strength-to-weight ratio helps manufacturers build more efficient, lighter, and longer-lasting products.
